Work With Us
Behind Every Great Performance Is a Team of Storytellers
Theatre is a miracle. It begins as ink on a page, becomes a spark in someone’s imagination, and—against all odds—transforms into a living, breathing moment shared between strangers in the dark. But that transformation doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a team. A tribe. A battalion of passionate, precise, wildly creative individuals working in sync to make the impossible look effortless.
At Waco Civic Theatre, we believe the magic of the stage belongs to everyone—not just the actors in the spotlight, but the people behind the scenes who build the world, time the lights, cue the music, and keep the show running night after night. These are the unsung storytellers, the heartbeat of every production. And we’re always looking for more of them.
If you’ve ever felt the thrill of an opening night, the quiet satisfaction of a perfect transition, or the pride of building something that moves people—then we want you on our team. Opportunities include:
Stage Manager
The organizational heart of the production. Stage Managers coordinate rehearsals, communicate between departments, and ensure that every moment onstage unfolds exactly as planned—sometimes even better.
Board Operator
The timing wizard. Board Operators run lighting and sound cues during performances with sharp focus and precision. When they’re good, the audience never notices—until the applause.
Lighting Technician
The sculptor of emotion. Lighting Technicians help design and execute the lighting plan for each production, shaping mood, focus, and energy with every beam of light.
Set Designer
The architect of imagination. Set Designers create the visual world of the show—building everything from palaces and prisons to jungles and kitchen sinks. Your designs become the space where the story lives.
Guest Director
The visionary. Guest Directors interpret the script, shape performances, collaborate with the creative team, and guide the cast from table read to final bow. They are equal parts storyteller, coach, and ringmaster.
And Many More Roles
From costuming and props to run crew, carpentry, and spotlight operation—every production needs a wide range of skills, passions, and perspectives. There’s a place for you here.
Training & Support
No experience? No problem. Our Technical Director, Joey Dumas, provides regular, hands-on training for all major backstage roles. Whether you’re a seasoned techie or someone with curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn, Joey will help you build the skills to shine behind the scenes.
